At Transformados del Sur, we are contributing with various folded sheet metal solutions to improve the building envelope of the Tropical Islands water park, located in Brand, Germany.
From airship hangar to tropical paradise
This iconic building was originally constructed as a hangar for airship manufacturing, known as the Aerium, featuring impressive dimensions:
- 360 meters long
- 210 meters wide
- 107 meters high
- 66,000 m² covered area
Its column-free structure is a unique example of functional architecture repurposed for a new use. Today, this space welcomes thousands of visitors every year and has been transformed into an extraordinary indoor water park, featuring artificial beaches, pools, slides, a spa, and a tropical area with real vegetation, offering an unparalleled experience under one roof.
Manufacturing folded sheet metal products to improve the building envelope
As part of this refurbishment, Transformados del Sur is involved in the manufacture and supply of various folded sheet metal solutions to improve the building envelope. These products strengthen the structure and optimize thermal insulation.
The installation of pre-lacquered steel and aluminum folded sheet metal flashings plays a key role, providing an additional layer that optimizes energy performance and helps maintain ideal indoor climate conditions.
Below are some of the most complex metal components produced for this project, all manufactured in pre-lacquered steel (thickness between 0.6 mm and 1 mm) and pre-lacquered aluminum (thickness 0.7 mm) with partial perforations:
